I'm sure that this has been asked many times before, but I can't find it, so here goes...

Some of my potatoes are ready for harvest (haulms yellowed and died off). I have more than I can use right away and limited storage space and I don't have access to straw to make a clamp. Can I leave them in the ground for a while (slugs permitting) or has anyone got suggestions for making a clamp with something other than straw?

You'll get away with leaving them in the ground for a couple of months, just make sure they are well earthed up otherwise the rain might wash off the soil and you'll get a few green ones.
