Never grown veg before so I need lots of advice.
I've bought early seed potato, some topsoil and garden compost. I have tubs 18'' x 24'' x 18'' deep.
Questions are what mix soil and compost 50/50?and how deep and how many potato's per tub?
Do I feed the the tubs or just leave them to get on with it?
Do they need sunlight or shade?
Complete novice as you might guess.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello FrankO and welcome to GC.

I'm afraid I can't help you either as I know zero about growing vegetables.

However, I do know a lot about Aylesbury having lived in Whitchurch and then Upton from 1978-2001. I really miss Market Square and Aylesbury and the Chilterns in general. :(

No doubt you'll questions will be answered shortly by one of our veg experts.

    Enjoy the forum!

Hello FrankO, welcome to the growing forum. The link looks good and if you follow the instructions you won't go far wrong. Potato foliage is very tender so if you're planting them now, don't let the frost get at them. Until the foliage is growing out of the top of the pot, they don't require a lot of light or water( most of the growth is under the soil ). The more seed potatoes in the pot, the more nutrient they take up, the smaller the potato yield. I wouldn't put more than 2 seed in a five litre pot. As for feeding the growing plants, everyone you ask will have their own method.

Hi FrankO, and welcome. As Terrier says, no more than 2 spuds per pot and feed with superphospate of lime.

It`s not lime, Pete, it`s superphosphate of lime, also known as superphosphate, which is a perfect fertilizer for ALL root crops. :D

Pete, it`s a Phosphate, which is what plants need to encourage root growth. Therefore, highly beneficial to root crops. [IMG] :D
