I'm interested in any answers to this. I have one butternut squash in a pot in the greenhouse grown from a Tesco parent.

The plant is producing 2 or 3 flowers a say and has one fruit about 2cm long

In autumn check the stem attached to the squash. Once it goes from a fresh green to a dull cork colour, then it's ready to harvest. The green tendrils similarly change colour, but I think it's easier to check the squash stem.

I have found it is necessary seperate squash from each other in storage as condensation forms on the points of contact, causing the rind to grow mould and then rot. If you have an airy space ,frost-free , I would move them out of the carton and place in solitary confinement. It helps to let the fruit harden skin once seperated from the vine, retaining the stalk if at all possible.
