I've lost a strawberry plant to what I suspect is a cheeky squirrel. I didn't even know they would eat the plant itself! There is a crater where the plant used to be and no trace of the plant at all, I'm really annoyed!

Also I've had one fuchsia bulb dug up and scoffed too, leaving just a husk, a few chomped remnants and another crater.

Pesky squirrels. Didn't even realise they'd be such a pain. How can I deter them?

Shoot them (unless they're red squirrells).
      I'm plagued by them.

Don't tempt me! My brother in law has an air rifle...

Might have to leave the dogs outside to patrol once the weather improves.

It's a lot more humane than using a trap.

Ive got them and the little darlings have eaten about a hundred lily bulbs during the winter but maybe it was a mole, vole or mouse.?
Cant shoot them as air guns are banned in Scotland now maybe because of several bloody squirrel massacres :thud:

Mine is almost definitely a squirrel, strawbs are in hanging baskets.

Just had a Google and apparently chilli powder or Tabasco sauce is a good deterrent. Just don't want to harm my strawbs.

Good, and the sooner they ban them everywhere else the better. I think if you are going to shoot something then you have to be a very good shot, not many people/idiots fall into that catagory nowadays they also shoot cats as target practice!!!!

I thought it was illegal to release grey squirrels once caught, they are classed as vermin.

:heehee: That's probably not a bad idea, surely there's a country somewhere that eats them, this could be a whole new marketing idea! :)
