    We got given this by the mother-in-law a while ago. Not sure what it is or how to care for it, any advice would be really appreciated.

    Yeah a pot in a pot, weve been keeping it alive by misting it not watering into the baase itself

      I thought it was an Aloe, does anyone know if they're the same family?

        Both Aloe and Haworthia are in Asphodelaceae.

        Yes I think I was wrong on this one I popped back after spotting the same plant as the OP's in the shop window of a local florist under a sign saying Aloes :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

        I've always known it as aloe varigata
