Stag beetles

    Just wondering if anyone else is being over run with thee amazing beetles? I've got them everywhere this year :)

    I can't remember the last time i saw one tbh. Are they the same thing as what we used to call Death Watch Beetles as kids?

    Um ... I've always known them as stag beetles .... I live close to common ground ie scrubland heathers trees etc ... Can usually find a number of them under fallen rotting branches

    Isn't death watch beetle a hole boring beetle found in old properties etc

      You're right Doug, i just Goggled it, adult ones are only 7mm long :wow:

      They look like they'd happily watch you die though Scorpio :biggrin:

      My ex Girlfriend was terrified of them. Sat in a crowded pub beer garden one evening, we watched a girt Male one fly round the garden twice and then, out of all the people there, it chose my Girlfriend's back to land on.

      Seemed like we were in the little Village of "Much Screaming." :snork:

      Actually, that might have been near you Loofah, think it was the White Hart at Pirbright.

      Oh good pub! Plenty of first dates there. Strangly not many second ones lol

      Some moist areas but I also introduced various log piles a few years ago. Guess they're working :)
