When do I prune these standard plants.? Next month? I usually severly prune my bush fuchsia but dont know what to do with a standard. They are overwintering in the greenhouse .

With Standards its just a case of pinching the crown shoots, to increase the dispaly, and removing any sign of new growth from the stem.

Sorry to be so ignorant but Im not sure what you mean. What are crown shoots? The top? New growth from stem? Does that mean any new shoots anywhere?

In a standard fuchsia, you have a bare stem and a crown. But there are still leaf nodes on the stem, so to prevent it reverting to a bush you need to remove any new growth from the stem.

The top is the crown - if you nip the growth shoots, they will provide more two or three more, that increases the bushiness - and therefore the number of flowers. If shoots are too long, cut them back to a leaf node.

Start to spray a little with tepid water on your fuchsias,we should be starting to see new growth now.

A sure way to find out is s****e your nail against ths step and if its green your fuchsias will grow.
