Whilst giving my garden it's deep spring clean, I decided I had become quite unhappy with the state of the fence. The panels are in good condition but have faded to that awful streaky grey colour.

I bought some stain and decided to paint them, thinking it would only take 15 mins or do per panel. I finished my first one last night after an hour and a half. It's going to be a very looong week.

Could you use of of those sprayer that they are always advertising? On second thoughts, I had a go last year and it was rubbish. Easier to use a big brush.

Anyway, once your plants are reaching for the sky who's looking at your fence panels? Or am I just a lazy gardening slattern?

It's quite amazing just how much time, energy and paint it takes to paint a fence. But if you compare the time and energy expended in fence painting about once in three or four years compared with the time and energy required to trim a hedge of equivalent size twice a year, every year, the fence option wins hands down.

Where are those 'bob a job' lads nowadays?...A whole fence would have been worth at least an extra sixpence.:)
