    Hello all,

So I've just brought a house and it has a lawn, which needs love. It's patch from wear and has huge spots where trampoline and climbing frames have been. Additionally there was some buried patio slabs which I've take up too.

This leaves me with a very uneven, and patchy lawn, full of dandelion and the like!

I've decided the best plan is to start over, then put some turf down. From what I've read the best time to turf is late winter / early spring so I've missed the boat for this year. But I can still plan...

    So what should I do?

I've read that some advise killing everything, leaving it a few weeks, then going to town with a rotovator. The ground looks fairly good underneath at least 5-6" down "looks" ok? I was then going to level it out, rake then put the turf down.

    Suggestions?

Your plan is sound. I would do as you say but after rotovating leave a few weeks for any weeds to re-appear then kill those off, then rotovate and level. You should be Ok turfing in the autumn, September time. I have successfully started a lawn from seed at that time.
