Today it was quite mild and sunny in Medway. Due to this, I decided it was time (?) to plant some bare root shrubs. Roses, Spirea, Philadelphus, Deutsia (if that is how you spell it) Photonia and Lavender. My question is, have I panicked and planted everything to soon? It's cold out there now and I'm worried! :help::new::sad:

Shoud be OK Lynda, bare rooted means they are dormant so they won't mind the cold.

Yes I agree with JWK, it should be just the right time to plant them. It would be more of a worry to plant them too late...

That's great, thank you - I was so worried I had steamed ahead and they would all be dead by next week!:yikes::yikes::yikes:

He he Lynda, they'd be more likely to be dead if they were out of the ground, so you did just the right thing. With their roots back in the soil they are in their natural place and they're all hardy. Lavender doesn't like to sit in the wet when it's cold, but if it's in free draining soil it will be happy.

Yes, apparently it's "reasonably free draining" according to the gardener clearing next doors garden - mind he also offered to scrub my back when he heard me running a bath earlier (he's 23, I'm 54) so I suspect he would tell me anything I wanted to hear really :roflol::roflol::roflol:
