We are thinking of buying one of these to get the grime off the stone floor in our kitchen, has anyone ever used a Steam mop, we haven't and are wondering if we are wasting our money?

I recently bought one of these, and it is a fantastic bit of kit.

We have a tiled floor in the porch and in the kitchen, and for shifting those stubborn marks it is ideal; I even used ours to get a stain out of the carpet that has been there since we moved in. Oh, and it makes cleaning the oven a breeze. :blue thumb:

We have one of the Vax steam sticks. Very impressed with it, the floors are dry within 5 minutes as well. Best thing we have bought for the cleaning.

I bought a VAX S1 last December (2012) and as ALL floors in our house are tiled this is a MUST here. As rustyroots says, floors are dry in minutes, especially important in damp/rainy season ... which is nice if we could get some (16-18c days, 7-9c nights, no rain). There is also an attachment for steam-cleaning carpets. I paid £62.56 from Amazon (delivered free) which included microfibre and velcro attachments. I highly recommend it.

Thanks FC, Rusty and Vicky, Can I ask you a silly question, they seem to come with cloth pads, is the cloth pad disposable or do you wash it afterwards?

The one that came with mine is washable John - its a fairly thick cotton with a sort of square-embossing on it, presumably to help lift the dirt.

Vax also sell replacement pads/brushes etc on their website and they aren't too expensive.

Forgot to mention earlier, I have also used mine to clean windows - very effective at giving a streak free clean, although a microfibre cloth to dry over was needed.

Oooh, one last thing that may seem completely obvious, but be VERY careful if switching brushes/heads/nozzles mid-way through use, as they get hot (and I mean really hot, with a capital 'J')

First day with mine, I got overly confident and went to switch brushes whilst cleaning the oven and nearly took the skin off my fingers.

There was a discussion recently, dunno if it adds anything @JWK ? maybe it will add "confidence" to your purchase though :)

It does fall into the top 2 "Don't buy the wife for XMas" categories : "Nothing for the kitchen, and nothing that you saw on Late Night TV" :heehee:

I only bought the cheap model John whereas others seem to have bought the more expensive models. Mine only came with two washable cloths and a gadget for cleaning carpets. I purchased separately two microfibre covers and one Velcro cover. In my opinion, the one that comes with it only cleans 'clean' floors, the microfibre ones dirty floors and the Velcro one (which looks like Sideshow Bob) cleans heavily soiled floors. ;) Mine does not have attachments for windows and ovens.

Ah thanks Kristen, it didn't occur to me to search on here first, just found the thread and will have a read through:

Mrs JWK instigated this so it wouldn't be a surprise :)

We have Tesco clubcard vouchers to 'use up' - and right now there is an opportunity to 'boost' them (get double the value ala Scrungee style), we've been in this position before with our clubcard vouchers, we suddenly need to spend them just before christmas. Last year I got a flash gun for my DSLR, quite a good one from Jessops, effectively 'free'. Right now we have enough vouchers for one of these steam cleaning gadgets and a new hand held vacuum - our house should be spotless :)

Just found some interesting information from the other thread kristen pointed me at:

I had no idea it might be useful around the garden and on the drive.

Should save me a small fortune in Jeyes fluid every year just to sterlize my greenhouse for starters.

I bought mine in 2000, it was no fancy looking item then, Argos 65 pounds I think, but it has loads of attachments right up to wall paper stripper, It was so useful for cleaning stone floors etc, in the cottage but what I really bought it for was the Rayburn, it was impossible to clean as it was always red hot...I steamed over the top as best I could, and the doors came up lovely.
I replaced my mop heads with bar towels, held on with elastic bands, as you don`t "scrub" with them it works okay.

If anybody's thinking of buying a Karcher steam cleaner, they're normally 25% cheaper if buying from http://www.amazon.de/

I was 900% sure I had posted the link ... obviously not! Sorry about that, could have saved you a job.

It will be if she says "Get the model you saw on TV" and you take the Late Night TV option !!

I am buying one this week John. I work for Stanley Black and Decker so I get good discount on their stuff . My friend at work has one and he swears by it . When I showed the webpage to Mrs H tonight , I made clear it was not a Christmas present ! I am sure she will be happy with the new ironing board cover I have bought for her - gift wrapped of course
