I bought a stephanotis in a pot (3" dia) from a garden centre. I keep it watered but not overwet. However, it is not looking too happy, although it hasn't shed any leaves - yet. It is indoors but not in overheated conditions. I believe that this plant likes cramped conditions but should it be in a slightly bigger pot? Any advice appreciated.

Hello, floris, Stephanotis (the Madagascar Jasmine) is very popular here, strangely enough. because it is a very temperamental plant, liking constant cool conditions in winter and completely dislike sudden changes in temperature.

This is not always possible here in the Algarve even though this plant is grown outside in the shade. It also does not like being moved when in flower.

It like to be in bright light but not direct sunlight and kept moist at all times, but more sparingly in the winter.

As a houseplant, you should repot every couple of years and one of your problems I think is the 3 inch pot it is still in.

I would love one and am often tempted in my many visits to garden centres but ....

My advice would be to repot, cut down on the watering now and keep your fingers crossed.

Good luck and let us know what happens. [IMG]
