Ok I warned you, a few hundred thousand questions!!
I have a steep slope down from what i lovingly call my drive to what i am hopefully calling my veg lot. I'd really like to put some steps in, maybe 3. How do i do this, and PLEASE keep it very simple, i cant do maths!!

Hi Joihann sometime pictures 'speak' an awful lot better than words, I have found the below image for you it seems 'they' just made some wooden boxes and planted them in the soil to get these steps.

you will of course have to treat the wood and even then they would only last a few years and would need replacing.

    Wooden steps

We did something like the above at our old house but with log roll and it lasted quite a few years and was pretty simple to do, although we filled the steps up with gravel!

Or if you are a budding 'Bob the builder' how about these....
    Brick steps
I'm sure somebody will come across a simple method for you to do but I thought the above will give you an idea to be thinking about.

Thankyou ever so much Helen! Thats a brilliant site and the wooden steps look really do-able. They'd be ideal for getting to the veg plot.
    Thanks again

Erm, might have had a rethink about the steps. I was laid in bed last night trying to go to sleep when i thought i might put trellising round the veg patch. That would give me support for fruiting shrubs and make it look seperate to the rest of the garden. Hubby's not up on the idea (means him helping!) but my daughter reckons she'll help me! I'll have to do a blog thing or something to fill you in on the details lol. It might be boring! (at least with a blog you can ignore it lol)

Sleaper steps with gravel or bark would be simple and practical.

Joi that's the beauty of gardening it's up to you how and what you do in your garden.

It's always wise to be happy with things that work better for you after all it's you that has to 'work' the plot!

No anything about gardening could never bore me believe me I'm addictive to the thing!

I only went and did it! I built a step yesterday! I'm really impressed with my effort! Don't think a builder would be, but hey I am so proud lol. I used some old log edging we had spare, dug a trench, fitted the bottom/retaining bit, lvelled the slope, put the sides in (also in trenches, back filled it, flattened it, raked it, put weed fabric down that i got from the £1 shop, filled it with slate chips we had left over and hey presto! A step!! I promise i will figure out how to post pictures!!
