Sticky thread suggestion

How about having a sticky thread in this section on what people are doing this month in their tunnels? I'm being selfish here but I'm sure other newbie tunnelers would benefit from tips on what we should be getting up to a different times of the year.

Not intending to be a know-all. I have often thought of, providing general information, Sowing and planting calender, plus much more.

Most forums do provide stickies. How often are they looked at? I think the members questions answer that one.

The internet has really changed our way of life in so many ways. Forums such as GC. What could be easier than to ask a question. ' Why is my plant looking sad' Do I have to water it?

At times I refer to my books, so as to gain a bit more about this and that. I enjoy the challenge.

 

A lawncare one would be good as we see the questions repeatedly.

 

Agree with you Mike about the internet ....but only to an extent. However, as much as possible, I think we should answer questions from our own experience of growing things.....can we consult Google including our own pictures, for example? It’s ok to google answers but the combined experience of forum members can be far more enlightening and thought provoking. Even if our replies are incorrect, somebody will expand them, etc., and ultimately provide comprehensive info. Besides Google is often confusing and even contradictory.
I think personal experience counts for a lot, hence forums like GC

 

Posting a question is quick and easy, and stickies may get ignored. I'm guilty of this myself. But... Some novices like myself might not even know what questions they need to ask.

That calendar is something I'd love to see.

 

I think the danger with this is that there would be too many sticky threads. As it is there are some in which no one has posted for a few years. Probably someone will say, that's the point but how often do they get looked at; only a close look at the numbers could determine that.

My view is that stickies should be limited to those that provide really sound advice. They ought to earn their stickiness.

 

For example, there is a sticky in the Allotments section about a petition from 2014. Surely this has been dealt with and is 5 years out of date so should have been "unstuck" years ago. There are others too.

No problems. My main point was. Do new members take the trouble to check first to see if perhaps their question/problem has previously been raised. I am all for helping new and seasoned gardeners.
