    Penny, it is a church, there many 'follies' too, that is, a building of no value or use, just something wealthy folk like to add to the gardens in their Stately Homes. there are also couple of temples, purpose made caves with a view (pic 6), cave like boathouses and other interesting things around the lake.:gnthb:

    Yes Cap, a Grand Day Out followed by the next day in Bath, a grand city like York.:thumb:

    Lovely pictures Strongy. They say this has been an unusually good year for the autumn colours.

    So a folly is a sort of duckhouse in the shape of the Houses of Parliament? :D

    I guess when they built that bridge even though cameras hadn't been invented, they must have known what a picture it would make.:)

    Slatta, the estate was owned by the Stounton family for 700 years but not as we see it now.
    It was bought by the Hoare family who were wealthy Bankers in the 1700's and had the gardens landscaped, they rebuilt the house and they eventually sold it to the National Trust in 1946.
