    Hi All,

I have a 'Gertrude Jeckyll' that is looking great at the moment, but i have noticed a few strange flowers on it. They are much pailer and smaller than the others and there seem to be big bunches of buds. Any ideas why they are there?

Is that good or bad? It doesn't mean i will lose the rose does it? It is my daughters memorial rose, so we dont want to lose it.

    RR,
follow the flower down the stem and see if it has grown from below the "budding union" which is a swelling where the rose was originally grafted. If it is below the union, then gently cut it away from the rootstock.
It is from the strong briar rose root which you do not want.

      Hi Jenny ,

I did notice that it was below budding union(I didn't know that is what it was called). When I cut it out is it worth trying to propagate it? Or compost it? Because they are actualy quite dainty and I wouldn't mind keeping them if I can. Is the rose in any danger if I cut it out, I really don't want to lose it.

      Cheers
      Rusty

A Rose by any other name would still smell as sweet.

You won't loose it, even if it reverts. I know i'd still love it as a memorial if it were me. No matter what the blossom.

you could easily propagate the other one by seeds as it's likely just a species rose anyway :blue thumb:
