    Hello all ...

Can anyone identify these seedpods I found on my kitchen patio. They are hard shelled. I cannot figure them out as the only things nearby are an olive tree, orange trees and Jacarandas. Any thoughts?

    Thank you in advance.

They look more like dead flowers, rather than seed pods to me.:)

They look a bit like my Feijoa flowers.
But without seeing what is growing around it's impossible to say.

Oh dear, you may be right again .. what a surprise ... :hate-shocked:

However, where have these come from .... ? I have never seen the tree here. My 'nearest neighbour' (cough) years ago dug up his orange orchard and planted all sorts of strange trees ... perhaps one of these? He is from Alentejo and his wife from Madeira and they like these (to me) horrid sweet fruits. Obviously these things came with the winds we have been having of late. I thought the little black things were seeds ... ha, ha, what do I know?

The little black bits are, I think the bits of the flower that hold the pollen.
    Botanically, I'm not going there.

But they could be anything flower wise.
I just dont think they are seed pods.:)

So your neighbors are growing this?

I bet they get more fruit than I do.
I'm also wondering what the fruit is like when properly ripened as I've not managed to ripen it here.
A bit mealy I'm guessing, but that could be why its connected with the Guava.

        Coming back to this ...

I have found these again on my patio and today several 'green' ones appeared unopened. I would photograph but my computer went kaput last month and I am using t'other half's spare laptop with Ubuntu (I am used to Vista). So, I am sort of up the Sewanee without a paddle at the moment as all my 'stuff' is on the desktop and we patiently await arrival of my netbook (is that what it is called?) as I am fed up with desk tops so all my 'stuff' can be transferred. Anyway, I digress ...

:ideaIPB: I now think these flying unknown creatures are from my Hibbertia scandens currently blooming which climbs up and over the upper deck in this area.
