Anyone else sitting in the dark trying to ignore the Trick or Treaters? The cute little kids have done their stuff and gone home and now it's over to the dodgy teenagers. They didn't bother us last year, because OH had a sense of humour failure the year before and word had got around that Victor Meldrew lived chez nous. Now they're back again, including the unsavoury lot down the road who are into rearranging cars. Ah well. Lights out, sound down and wine open. It's going to be a long night.

what cheeses me off, is the parents that accompany the young children .... they are the ones with chocolate all over their faces ....

I think they eat more sweets/chocolates than their kids

Haha well we buy one big bag of the individually wrapped Haribo chew things and get a box of Jamie dodgers out of the cupboard and when there gone there gone:o saying that they last a couple of hours and that does most of the little ones and then we just turn the kitchen and porch light out a disconnect the door bell

Bloke on the radio pointed out that it is begging for sweets, but begging none the less, and begging is ilegal

Not quite got to that stage yet here. All the little tots are long gone, now it's small groups of young teenagers, we don't mind as long as they dress up and are polite.

The pumpkin is lit up on our steps so we only have to bring it in and I'm sure we wouldn't't be bothered again.

The fireworks have just started so maybe that's it for little visitors.

I hope so, I've got my eye on the remainder of the sweets.

Last year in Tescos they had a pile of printed notices that you could just help yourself to, the notice has a pumpkin on the top and then in bold lettering it reads: NO TRICK OR TREATERS THANK YOU.
I have that stuck inside the porch door. :yess: They can sod off I don't 'do' Halloween!!!

That put a picture in my head of the Prime Minister, dressed in Halloween gear, knocking on the office door of the IMF with a load of eggs & flour in his hands:heehee:

I had two kids knocking on the door about half an hour ago. I'd completely forgotten about Halloween so when I went to the door I was caught out. The kids were okay, a boy about 6 and a girl about 8 and they'd made an effort to dress for the occasion. I had to resort to a couple of jars of sweets that I keep for visitors and they grabbed a couple of handfuls with a grin and a thank you. The lady accompanying them was in a wheelchair so she was also making an effort for the kids sake.

I'm not in favour of the Trick or Treat as it's an imported thing and we have enough of our own customs to keep the kids entertained. Having said that.....the kids like it!!!:D

A true story of Halloween about 4 years ago was when I was prepared for it and stupidly decided to join in the spirit, [excuse the pun:D], of the night and when there was a knock on the door I was ready. I opened the door wearing a huge afro wig, a mask that looked like one of my old girl friends, and a black robe, and said "Yeeesss" to what unfortunately turned out to be a boy and girl even younger than those that visited me tonight. The little boy took one look at at and dissolved into tears while the little girl looked like she'd need a change of pants. I was mortified and got rid of the wig and mask to calm them down, and it took double rations of sweets to get a smile and quell my conscience!!:cry3::heehee: Shan't do that again.

I don't get any kids coming round here, as i am half a mile outside the village and they won't walk that far! I chose my house well  Mind you i do like to see the little tiny ones dressed up - my nephew (aged 3) is dressing up as spiderman - not quite halloween, but very cute!:)
