Evening all, sorry about another strawberry question but I have searched and still not sure.

We bought a few plants last year, into a planter and plenty of fruit (the dogs were happy with them, until we caught them!!), anyway, left the planter and runners we collected outside for the winter. The runners are now in hangers and going good. The planter still has brown leaves and no sign at all of any growth.
Should I replace the plants in the planter or are they going to pick up?

    Cheers,
    boots

If there are no signs of growth by now it sounds like you've got a container of ex-strawberries!
I can't see them picking up this late and would go for replacement.

I think Daves right boot, mine are sprouting new growth in the garden.(Does that look humorous or is it my weird sense of humour!)

Strawberry seed is normally sown very early, but anything before April should get a small crop this year. Once they have germinated, they dont need much warmth, lots of light is more important. Pot the seedling up as soon as they are sturdy enough to handle.

First year I haven't wintered my strawberry pot and alas have only one plant that has survived so like Smiffy it will be a case of buying a few more in. Normally they are flourishing by now when I have wintered them under polythene. Back to the old tried and tested next winter I think.

By the way Harry yes I see Homebase had some in stock, so no problem with replacements.

Thanks for the replies, looks like the planter will have to get emptied as there is no sign of life whatsoever.
Disappointed really as we only bought the plants last year. Luckily the runners are doing ok.

    Cheers,
