strawberry seeds

    Hi could anyone tell me please the best time to plant strawberry seeds for next year in my poly I thought if I got them started this year then they would produce fruit next year any advice please

    Wouldn't it be better to beg some runners off someone with decent plants? They will start producing them like mad after the strawberry season finishes, you could root them and get lovely little plants ready to go in in September for a lot less effort. You'd almost certainly get strawberries next year, then.

    The only reason not to is if you want a special variety that is only available from seed.

      Where did you get your seed from, I only ask as if it is seeds saved from supermarket fruit the seeds are often infertile or if they grow there will be no flowers or fruit.. If they were from organic strawberries or from a friend then they may grow.. Sow them now, but to be honest you could be wasting precious time & compost.. Well unless of course they are heirloom seeds..
      If you can get some runners or plants you will be much better off & they will be established before winter.. :sunny:
