When using a new strimmer, the line feeds fine, and only occasionally breaks.
Every time I wind some replacement line onto the spool of my Flymo, I get lots of breaks with the line appearing to be caught underneath itself on the spool.
I have to keep removing the top, and the spool, to re-feed through the hole again.
Has anyone any tips - I'm pretty sure I am winding the correct way, as the line DOES feed when power is switched off and back on again.
I've tried very careful winding, and sprinkling talc as a lubricant, but still have problems.
This occurred on a small Flymo and also on a larger model I now have - IS IT ME ?

I had similar problems years ago and I gave up using them, but my next door neighbour got a professional in with a large petrol strimmer, and I asked him about this problem.

He smiled, and said that when you come up against wire fences and anything thats likely to snag it, then you just blip the throttle to cut the speed. Then just to rub it in, he said of course if you've got one of those electric things then you just have to put up with it!

I did find that it was worth throwing the reel away at the end of the season and starting with a fresh reel the following year, it seemed to me that it got brittle with age. IMHO ;)

I have overcome this problem by using line that is the next thickness up to what it should be in my case 2mm on a Flymo, and always have a roll pre rolled ready so that it has had a chance to pre form as photo,It is well worth doing because I know how frustrating it can be.......

    When prep. roll pull tight.........
Gosh this is difficult to explain...... [IMG]
    Hope it helps...........

The idea of using the next size of line seems a good wheeze - I will give it a try. [IMG]
I DID understand the preforming bit.

    Thanks Don

It's all about memory - some plastics have a memory

Unlike me - I was the template for Dory!! (Finding Nemo?)
