Looking to buy a new strimmer, I had a cordless that came with my Challenge Xtreme mower, the battery has failed and I cannot scource a replacement. :gaah:

So I am looking to get a new one, nothing fancy it only cuts round 3 trees on front lawn ,and occasionally round lawn edges. Not bothered about being cordless as need extension for mower, so looking for best buys and deals...

Strimmers my pet hate - they only come out when the sun comes out ! So about 4 o clock on a nice Sunday afternoon sitting in the garden with a cold beer and a glass of chilled wine for Mrs H.....when eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ! The blessed sound travels for miles :gaah:
Back on topic though Pam  Argos do small mains strimmers for £12 and £19 for a Qualcast one . So bear these prices in mind if you do find a replacement battery.

Last summer (mid 2011), my mam and I were chatting in my back garden. She was whining about her noisy neighbours and saying how it must be so much quieter in the suburbs where I live.

I said, 'mam, just stop talking for a minute and listen'. 'Can't hear anything' she said. 'No, actually listen, your brain is blocking out irrelevant noise, its clever like that, but actually listen'. I think she was genuinely shocked when she realised that in addition to the sound of traffic on my road and other nearby roads, she could also hear several lawn mowers, strimmers, somebody hammering, and somebody using an angle grinder.

I bought a strimmer yesterday off ebay, brand new in box Flymo power trim, 5-50 + 9-99 p&p, these are in the current Argos catalogue 39-99.

Pam, You've not said if you
wear eye protection, it's amazing how bits can end up at face height,
I bought one of those full face shields, looks daft but saves any bits hitting your face!! they're a cheap bit of safe to use kit well worth using.

:eeew: When my garden fence was climbed whilst I was away, by contractors, I enquired of their boss about them doing this, he was very concerned about "Elf and Safety, I replied "B@##$r elf and safety, I am thinking "Breaking and entering", so 'Elf and safety" rank second to lets get the job finished to me, I am cutting grass only where the lawn butts up to the log roll, probably the circumfrence of each tree is less than a yard, as i had to shorten each roll. no debris to worry about, also the angle of the strimmer head is away from me.
i am afraid I am the sort of person who gets on with a job ,no fuss, use the appropriate equipment, I am very careful of my feet, but if equipment is used correctly and treated with respect that should minimise the chance of accidents.
I appreciate they are, in. the wrong hands, dangerous but so can a simple rake be if discarded carelessly.
