Hi folks. Just saw this hobby forum, so I thought I'd mention mine. Stryngs is my band. We're acoustic/singer-songwriter stylee. Our singer writes all the lyrics. The lyrics are very important to us; we feel that real poetry can work in popular song. I play acoustic guitar and mandolin and write most of the music. If you'd like to have a listen, you can click on the myspace link to hear five songs. We've also got a sixth song that I put together a video for (scroll down a little on the main page).
Just had a quick listen Louis... A nice folksy ballady sound. I certainly think the guitar skills are very good and I LOVE the mandolin. I notice the lead singers name is not mentioned ??? or have I just missed it on the site. I really like poetry so this intelligent music is an unexpected pleasure to hear in a world of rap and noise which passes for music!
Thanks for taking a listen CM. Yes, rap and noise are being done to death. We felt like doing something different Whoops! The singer is 'Strings'. (It's her nickname.) We had some trouble thinking up a band name and in the end decided that Strings would do, but then changed the spelling so we could register a domain name without competition. It was one of our less creative days The mandolin on the recordings is a good friend of ours who plays in a bluegrass band in Colorado Springs. (At the time of recording, my mando skills weren't up to the job).
Excellent Louise at last a singer who can enunciate her words correctly agree with cookie it does make a nice change from some of this dross thats dished up,thoroughly enjoyed it.
Lovely Louis................Cartwheels does it for me specialy the bit about saving weeds in your fathers garden behind the shed .Very GC. A very special poetic sound you have, real lyrics and a melody and that beautiful accustic sound. Started my day off nicely thanks..........................
Thanks Walmart Glad you enjoyed it. Yes - proper enunciation is important if you think your lyrics are worth paying attention to! It's one thing that irritates me about the otherwise wonderful Tori Amos; she's developed a peculiar way of strangling her words so that she's largely incomprehensible.
It hadn't occured to me, but yes - that line in Cartwheels is a good GC line :0) That song is a particular favourite of mine. The lyric is one that I was waiting for Strings to write for a long time. She had told me the story a long time before, and I knew it was something she would write eventually, but that I couldn't push her on it. Thanks for clicking the link.
