This is obviously aimed at our best Sub Mariner, but what happens if you want a smoke and you work on a submarine?

          Deck hand on a Sub

[IMG] Ban: A U.S. Navy diesel research submarine in American waters. Crew are now banned from smoking aboard

Individual submarine commanders will be allowed to decide if crew members are permitted to smoke on deck.

An estimated 35 to 40 percent of the 13,000 US submarine sailors smoke - double the US national average.

The order comes 16 years after a ban on smoking in military buildings and installations, as well as aboard US Navy ships.

Troops deprived of fresh air and natural light for months have until now been allowed to smoke in submerged submarines.

For years the Navy assumed that secondhand smoke was cleaned from the air by the air purification filters that removed fumes from cooking and cleaning chemicals.

Back in the 60/70/80's then smoking was permitted in designated areas, usually low down in the boat and aft, engine room garbage area
The air was cleaned by air scrubbers, and snorkeling, when charging batteries
When surfaced at night, then it was up on the fin, and by numbers
Obviously those(on watch) driving the boat could not go up and have a burn

Modern day Nukes, I am unsure of so can not state, but I belive they have a designated smoke area and off course they are submerged constantly for 12 weeks minimum, no surfacing to charge batteries ,send radio messages etc

Which brings us to the proposed banning of smoking in cars
ie IF 140 men can smoke in a confined space for 12 weeks why can one person not smoke in a 6 foot square box for half an hour ?

                  Well rest assured they will
just put up fuel tax to £3 a litre

Without fuel, in this day and age we can not work (get on yer bike et al 1982)

Very few people work local anymore, and the usual distance is too far to get on yer bike, well you could get up at 03:00 cycle to work for 06:00 work until 18:00 cycle home for 21:00 and repeat IF in an office

If you are an Artisan then I am afraid it is up at 01:00 to load the handcart with your tools and equipment and back home for 23:00 I am afraid

Only the increased calorie usage means even bigger food bills

Though your income would not meet the cost of the food supplies delivered using fuel to your nearest superstore ASTESMORRILIDALD five miles away

Mind NHS costs would go down, as initially fitness would increase followed by death three months later from starvation

Maybe ver dorch sprung politique Merkel will feed us in the camps

Or buy a bloody convertible :-)
