Sudden 'taste' changes

    Over the past few weeks, I have really (really) gone a bundle on onions and garlic, and I have absolutely no idea where it came from.

    Up until my early 20's, you would not have gotten me anywhere near onions, unless they were in a stew/pie and I couldn't actually taste them; as I got older, I started to have them occasionally, and to appreciate some of their flavour in things, but even then I could never have been classed as a fan - - until very recently. Homemade onion rings, homemade garlic and herb croutons, garlic bread, spring onions, white onions, red onions, onions and garlic in soup..... it is almost a 'craving'

    Has anyone else experienced sudden taste changes where you started eating something that you previously either didn't bother or even disliked the thing before?

        I did, yes. It turned out to be due to a side effect of some medication.

          Ah, that could be it! I started taking steriods about six weeks ago - I never thought of that! Did it revert when you stopped taking them?

                Not in the least. You may find that things you liked previously will be disliked now, possibly to the point of making you throw up.

                  I have a pint of Tanglefoot on the go, so I am taking your advice already :)

                  Was it a sudden change for you, or did it happen gradually?

                  Not had anything like that yet, but it is early days. Just had a homemade soup loaded with onion, leeks and garlic amongst other things :yummy:

                    It happened when I tasted the real thing, rather than the stuff used as flavouring in certain products.
                    But I have eating fads, go for weeks eating something, then go right off it and onto something else.
                    Dunno why? :scratch::biggrin:

                        It's OK @"M" - I had a pint of Tanglefoot, a pint of Old Speckled Hen then thought I best cut back a bit so as not to overdo it; downgraded to vodka now.

                              I'd not heard of Tanglefoot, so looked it up FC. Your tastes must really have changed if you've got a fancy for an insect barrier! :snorky:

                              Seriously though.....age, medicine, illness and food fads can all change your 'wants' in your diet. They can also tell you as mentioned, that there may be something your body is craving. Onions suggest iron and that is often given to women during pregnancy. :)
