The porch faces North and West and gets good light from the glazing but never sun. It's unheated so will probably be very cold in the winter.

I'm after a trailing or climbing plant that is not Ivy (Ivy would tick all the boxes but I don't want it! ).

All options that come to my mind either want some sun or are too exotic for the cold winter temperatures.

A trailer or even better, a climber, that would hang from the shelf or trail around the porch would be lovely. The plant would be sited on a high shelf and could then trail down or be fixed to adorn the windows.

A Boston type fern is the best I can think of, but they tend to drop a lot of leaflets creating mess. Ditto Asparagus. Spider plant or Tradescantia are possible, but rather boring and Tradescantia would need brighter light. Pothos wants more heat.

I'm hoping someone knows a new kind of (preferably climbing) plant for these conditions to recommend.

    Thanks very much! :)

@Selleri we have in our garden room 2 Hoyas. The room is not heated and they do well. They are evergreen and flower with a lovely fragrance. The carnosa is more of a climber with bella just hanging down but still so lovely.

    Some suggestions from Google -

Here are some houseplants that can tolerate a north-facing, cold porch:
    • Cast iron plant: This hardy plant can survive in a wide range of conditions, including cooler temperatures. It can tolerate neglect and too much light can be bad for it. It prefers partial shade and indirect light.

    • Snake plant: Snake plants can tolerate north-facing windows, but they may grow more slowly than in brighter, indirect light. Snake plants with lighter foliage or variegation may lose some of their vibrancy in northern exposure.

    • Spider plant: This plant prefers shade and should not be overwatered.
Other plants that can thrive in north-facing rooms include:
    • Black coral snake plant
    • ZZ plant
    • Peace lily
    • Leopardina prayer plant
    • Variegated weeping fig
    • Silver lady fern
    • Elgergrass prayer plant
