Hi folks. I don`t know if any of you are familiar with `crimson showers`, but I`m looking for something similar which is less vigorous. Cheers...freddy.

Hi again folks. Thanks for your suggestions. Actually, something I just remembered was Geoff Hamilton training a rambler horizantaly along some wires. I think the thing was I let it get out of hand and ended up with too much growth at the top and not much lower down. As you say wiseoldowl, it`s a cracking rose which I first saw at Barnsdale in their `cottage` garden. So, once again, thanks for your suggestions but methinks maybe I should try it again and THIS time be more vigilant. Cheers...freddy.

Well folks, it seems I misled you. Having just sourced some `crimson showers` it turns out that this WASN`T the rose I had. The one I had was a very deep red rose that flowered more than once each year and the flowers were in clusters. So I guess I`m looking for a climber and NOT a rambler. Thanks for your suggestions and sorry for leading you `up the path` :) I would be grateful for more suggestions. So, to recap, a climber that has deep red flowers and which grows to maybe 15ft or so. Cheers...freddy.

BTW, the reason I`m suggesting 15ft or so is because I`m allowing for the growth to be trained horizantally (as well as vertically)along my pergola. Is this right ? Cheers...freddy.

Hi again. Right, now that the said roses are on order, I`d like to get it right, starting with ground preparation. With this in mind, what do I need to do ? Cheers...freddy.

Hi Freddy when are you going to receive them and are container or Bare root. This is what I do but it might not be what other Gardeners do.
If it is Bare root 1.Put them in a Bucket of water for at least 2 hours
2.make sure they have at least 6 hours of Sun a day If possible Afternoon
Sun.3.2 metres apart(Climbers)I dig the hole 2ft x2ft the soil I have removed i put in a barrow .Then I always prune the tips of each roots
Then I use 50% of Compost Manure and 50% of my native soil(good Stuff) I personally never use the soil i have removed but put it somewhere else in the Garden and I always put about a cup of Phosphate in the Hole and as with any rose I water it early morning and late evening for the first 3 days.:)

Hi WOO. I`m assuming that they will be delivered shortly, and will therefore be potted. The sun shouldn`t be a problem as we`re pretty much south facing. Cheers...freddy.
