Finding the grass is too much for me to handle any more, I would like to dig up most of my back lawn and plant stuff.

What I'm looking for is: ground cover, perennial, butterfly and insect attracting, with long-lasting flowers and even maybe with berries or fruit. It also needs to be low maintenance and native to UK.

The area to be covered is about 10 yards X 5 yards.

Would greatly appreciate advice on what to get please.

    Thanks.

Can you upload any photos? That would help get an idea of the area you want to plant.

Anything you particularly like? Cottage Garden? Roses? Shrubs? Herbaceous? Containers? Vegetables?!! Exotics?

Hi Ripple, welcome to Gardeners Corner.:snork: Kristen's right, it would help if you could tell us what kind of soil you garden on, the direction the garden faces and a few pics of the garden.:snork:
I garden using as many plants as I can but to cut the work load down I use a lot of herbaceous perennials that will basically grow out of the ground, flower, and then die back in the Autumn and Winter and then come back time and again every year. So Phlox, Irises, Asters, Japanese Anemones, Day Lilies, Shasta Daisies, Paeonies, Astrantia, Fuchsia, Oriental Poppies, Geum, Saponaria, Lupin, Monarda, Lavender, to name a few. Having a few structural plants here and there like a shrub or two will help to give it some shape.:coffee:

I'm interested why you included this. My lawn's covered in the stuff. Am I assuming you reckon it's not such a bad thing to have? It does spread quickly but perhaps it's not as bad as some other weeds.

English clover is native , You may don`t like it in your lawn because it`s a mix of the 2 ,
considered weed , it`s actually really good for your soil , as it work like oxigenator.
Do not forget that lawn was considered weeds as well century ago , If you wouldn`t cut your lawn weekly it would look like this.
poaceae grass used for moder lawn.

I think it was over a century ago but I take your point. I'll not worry about it too much then. Thanks.

Have managed to persuade daughter to upload a pic. The bit along the stream I'm also looking for suggestion please. At the moment it's just overgrown grass.
