From this Summers growth of Sunflowers I have potted up the seeds, obtained from the end of flowering. I know it is early, but was wondering if anyone knows of how they grow if kept in pots, at the moment I have a dozen seedlings of a few inches tall. Do they become giants as like when planted outside in the garden, or do they stay as dwarfs?
As I would like them for cut-flowers when they have developed anyway.

Much appreciated, perhaps I will have the conclusion myself from this practical test for all future queries, if no one else knows.

    Hi Greenfingers
Mine were grown in pots (tubs really) and they grew to normal heights.
Keeping them from falling over was the biggest problem (top heavy) but it was a useful watering indicator :D

Without the summer light levels and daylength i guess they`ll probably get very leggy.

No harm in growing them though ..just for the fun of it ;)

If you want to grow sunflowers in pots then you might as well get the varieties that are specifi8cally bred for it ie. dwarf. Again for cutting they have varieties that are specifically bred for that, they will produce side branches and some are even pollen free so last longer.

Here are ones that I grew in a big pot indoors this spring. Had to eventually put a stake into the pot to give them support but got them to over 7 feet tall. You can just see the minatures in the background Teddy Bear was the variety and were double headed good if you want something different.
