I am totally new to this so please forgive any questions that are basic

I brought a sunflower kit from my local 99p store and thought this would be fun, planted them in the 4 tiny pots they gave me and hoped.

Well the seeds have sprouted, and now are growing about an inch a day!!!!

What do I do now? Do I need to put each seedling in its own pot? How do I know when the time is right to do that? When would I put then outside?

Any advice would be good - Thanks

I grow sunflowers every year mainly for the bees in summer and to save the seeds for bird food in the winter. I sow in April, but you are so much further south you'll probably get away with sowing earlier as you have done.
I sow into pots about 4" and grow on until the roots start showing and then plant out using plastic lemonade bottles as cloches for the first few weeks.
In your case I'd suggest potting on into larger pots when you see roots showing at the base of the existing pots and then placing in a warm sheltered place in the garden for a week to ten days before planting out. Of course if you have space indoors you could grow them on for a bit longer before putting them outside.

Yes put them into their own pots.. I shall sow mine later this month I think too, but otherwise like Dave & sow into 4" pots & pretty much do what Dave does.. The pop bottles also cut down on slug & snail attack too..!

The first time I grew sunflowers from seed I had several that were at least six inches tall when I put them in the garden. We went away for the weekend and when we came back they had all been eaten by slugs/snails!

I have just planted some seeds in pots with my two girls this weekend - they had both picked up a stomach bug and been off school/pre-school all week. As the the weather was so good we sat outside on the deck to plant them.
