Hi wildflower, my last and only reserve sunflower is only 8 feet but is still growing. I too am waiting patiently for it to flower. I hope it is a bit more than a dandelion, the rudbeckias have made better sunflowers this year !

    Davew :D :D :D
I grew some called 'Pastiche', they aren't very tall [6-7' at the most] not very exciting colours, and they have all turned to the neighbours garden, but the insects love them and there will be lots of seeds in winter.

They are all lovely including "daves scarecrow,"..Sunflowers are quite usefull as the birds get a feed from them..so nothing is wasted..Their are so many different varietys now you dont know which to buy..I think mine is the russian giant and its certainly living up to its name..i did have some minature ones but they have finished now..I think they look cheerfull and brighten the garden up..I liked those teddy bear sunflowers beefy put on this site recently they looked nice..something different i suppose..mine is a waste of air space as i will have to bend my neck as far back as possible to view it.. Both my sunflowers were planted by the birds from seed and today one of them got decapitated by the builder as it was in his way so I am saving it for the winter to feed the birds. Can I just stick it in the shed until then or will it rot? ;)

Some nice pics of sunflowers [IMG]
My giant yellows are beginning to wain a little now and are looking a bit rough.
They are not much over 7.5ft tall, but the flowers are the size of dinner plates (12" diameter).

Giant Single, seeds from Aldi (fed every week with seaweed extract)
    tallest is about 11 ft.
Should the flowers get a lot bigger?
and should I get longer canes (8 ft ones at mo)
