    Hi all

Now my 12x8 greenhouse is erected and virtually finished, all I have to do is dig out the beds inside and put down a central path. After reading posts on this forum about beds v pots/growbags, I've decided that its beds for me. I plan to have beds all round, and use staging down one length for the duration of the seed sowing/potting-on part of the growing season. Later on the staging will give way to growing tomatoes/cucumbers etc in the bed below it.

My only problem is how do I support the staging on the ground?

    Any ideas most appreciated.

    Helen

If you make 4 A-frame trestles, each pair could be used to support a 6 foot length of staging. Make them with hinged tops so you can fold them for storage. Prevent the feet of the trestles sinking into the soil by putting slates or tiles under them.
In my GH and polytunnel I made my staging in sections so that I can remove it bit by bit as I remove the plants and need less of it.

No such thing as a stupid question - only stupid answers!:D

I don't need A-frame trestles as my GH has low double brick walls at the sides and a floor to roof upen wooden frame in middle so I can use four long lengths of timber to support staging (which is old alloy 'trays' recovered from a derelict GH. My tunnel has L shaped legs that attach to the hoops and in spring I run two lengths of wood over these and rest the wooden stage sections on them.

I used collapsible A-frames to support a work-bench/potting table that I used outside. It was about 750mm high which is a reasonable working height, though making it a bit taller would have reduced back strain. If you want to use this type of thing for your GH staging I'd suggest you think about optimum comfortable height and also bear in mind that the taller it is, the less shadow it will cast on the soil below. As far as width is concerned you need to make it wide enough to support the staging you are going to make or buy. It can of course be a bit narrower than the staging.
