I cannot emphasise this enough - if you are of a sensitive nature, then please DO NOT watch this video footage. Seriously, don't even be tempted.

I can guarantee no matter your disposition that this is likely to make you furious (at best) - I have raised a complaint with our local PCC (this video shows the actions of my local force) which I will post a copy of shortly.

The backstory here is that a calf escaped from some fields that are not all that far from me, and this was Surrey Police's way of dealing with it. Suffice to say, the backlash that they have had locally (and now it is going national) has led them to make a voluntary referral to the IOPC and now James Cleverley has waded in, calling it excessively heavy handed (or words to that effect).

FINAL WARNING - YOU WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK

What the hell are they up to, I've seen videos of escaped animals on motorways and they dont do that even in those circumstances.

I can think of a few people that need to be dealt like that but not a frighted animal.

I hope they throw the book at the idiots, especially the one telling everyone to go away, glad some one filmed them.

Thank you @Fat Controller for making that complaint. As a farmers daughter i grew up on a dairy farm, and became a smallholder rearing cattle for beef, and I can honestly say I have never ever seen such inane. stupid and wilfully cruel treatment of a farm animal.

Although I understand that we now live in an age when few people have the sort of understanding of how to handle farm animals that used to be much more common, I find it hard to believe that any person with any degree of intelligence could even have begun to think that was a good way to deal with the problem of a large frightened animal in a built up area.

i wouldnt trust them to shovel manure (I’m trying to be polite).

That is appalling, I agree with your complaint and can understand why there is a storm on social media. It's completely unacceptable treating a poor little animal that way.

I imagine the police are going to play the danger to public life card.

They can try, but I don't think it will wash. To be honest, I am sick to the back teeth of seeing piss poor behaviour on behalf of police or local authority employees - - they seem to think that they are somehow Teflon coated and in a position to bully us around (and seemingly animals too); all they had to do here was shut the roads, keep the lights and sirens off, stay close and relatively quiet and wait... bovines are naturally curious animals, so they tend to come to you for a sniff/lick if you are calm. That would have bought them sufficient time until a herdsman or vet could arrive.

If you or I drove our car at any animal or person like that, what would the outcome be? 6-points and a hefty fine is my bet.

Whoever was behind the wheel of that vehicle does not have the temperament to be a warrant card holder.

I agree, looks like the driver was panicking.

Once the RSPCA get stuck in then the driver could face jail, as members of the public do when they mistreat animals.

I've seen coppers panic before, they are not as professional as we are lead to believe.

it would have been better if they shoot it than what they did

I was up in scotland many years ago and there was a bullock loss on a main highway , but the police were just making things worse by chasing it up and down the road in the end they shoot it

But say that i know what it's like to be stamped on

Just been on the TV, apparently the RSPCA are asking questions about it as they think it doesn't look right.

A bullock would have been a different matter to be fair - but this was just a calf.

Even a calf that size would be quite a handful, could easily knock someone over especially as the stupid police were driving it into a mad panic.

i used to years ago bring down a calf that size no problem with a head lock finger & thumb in it's nose and pull it's head around to it middle
