    Not a good sign.
Sunday afternoon 30 or more swallow's were giving us an aerobatic display above my house. Since then I have not seen one! They have all swallowed off!. I was hoping they might stay another week or two indicating a nice Indian summer.
Any chance the swallow's have got it wrong I hear you cry....Nope they never do:nonofinger:

I've not noticed any for the past week either, maybe they know there's a hurricaine coming? :yikes:

Ours, we have MANY are still about and there are 3 nests of newborns still being fed my mums and dads. Ours don't usually go until about the 3rd week in September but obviously we are further north.
If it has been very dry with you perhaps there aren't enough flies about perhaps?....this is a complete guess!

We've only had a few all summer but about a month ago more came, not sure if they were come to stay or getting ready to leave but we have the same numbers a month on :dbgrtmb:

They left here as usual around the first week in August.

I might be referring to swifts, I can tell the difference, just know they appear late May and are gone by mid August every year.

Funny, I heard geese flying over (southbound) the other morning, and thought it was a bit too early? Maybe they know something we don't?

Possibly the very early arrivals, early March, may leave early but I haven't seen any here gathering on the wires yet. Some Swallows are still here in late October. @pete yes the Swifts have gone.

Right so then I can only say I've never seen a swallow in the area I live in.
We just dont get them, only screeching Swifts.

I saw one today where I work, but never seen them around the houses where I live.
Only see the swifts at home.

Do swifts and swallows not like to mix?
                        Competition and all that perhaps???
