I thought I saw swallow or swifts yesterday, they were flying too fast and high make a positive id, so I'm glad others have spotted them. Thanks Pam and Alice! :gnthb:

I dont remember ever seeing a swallow around here until at least mid May.

But in saying that I'm not good a working out the difference between swallows and swifts.

I have noticed a smaller bird of the same type, forked tail in April, maybe house martins, but not seen any yet.

After a late start House Martins and Swallows are arriving in large numbers now, the first making an appearance five weeks ago. A few Swifts have arrived (early) although they usually are the last and only stay four four months.
There was a small influx of the rarer Alpine Swifts a couple of weeks ago, must have taken a wrong turn or their Sat Nav malfunctioned.:)

Hi Pete and Boghopper. They're won't be any swifts yet. The Swifts are the last to arrive - they come late - and they're the first to leave. But do watch out for the swallows and housemartins. They've arrived.

You're quite right Alice, I meant Martins. I should know Swifts as they're my favourite bird. I love watching them screaming round, high above church spires - such a sense of joie de vivre and complete delight in being able to fly so fast and so accurately. Can't wait for them to turn up!:yho:
