Hi All. I have read that sweet peas when grown like it cold,” grow them hard" comes up often.

Now I planted sweet peas back in October and kept them in a cold greenhouse and just planted them up in their big pots ,boy were the roots long, I think the main tap root was 12-18" long.

Anyway decided to try some Dwarf peas for hanging basket. These peas I decided to plant back in Feb and they were dismal with only 6 coming up so reordered this time from Nicky`s nursery and they are growing great.

Now the thing is although they were planted late they are 1"-3" tall and going strong. The taller ones are already poking their roots through bottom of 3" pot so I decided to plant the bigger ones into the hanging basket to give them more space.

Now this is where I come to scratch my head, do I let them continue to grow in the hanging basket in the blow away tent or put the basket in the greenhouse, bearing in mind the weather we are having at the moment means the greenhouse gets very hot?

I personally think the greenhouse heat at the moment will be too much but would like to get your wisdom. It is strange S.peas need to be very cold when small but need to full sun when grown.

At what point do you say the S.pea has grown big enough to go from cold to heat??
    Thanks

Personally I would harden them off for the next couple of weeks and then put them outside, unless you are in the very North of scotland.

Put mine outside yesterday, I have had them in 2 big pots for about a month, growing up obelisks, got to the point I need the space, so out they went.
