New thread so as not to hijack Armandii's thread above. I was green with envy seeing his photos ! I have grown SP's successfully in the past , but the last 3 years I have grown them the results have been poor to appalling !
Last year I sowed SP Floral Tribute mid October, tended them with loving care through the long cold winter. Prepared the bed late Feb with farmyard compost. Planted out in late March in full sun. The results - pathetic :gaah:
Now GW last night ( a superb one ! ) Monty did a trial and said that an early spring indoor planting gave very good results.
I am having one final go at SP's . I will plant in late Feb , single colour SP's Red and Blue. Can anyone recommend reliable single colours of these which grow to about 6ft ?
Any other pointers ? Is it OK to grow SP's in the same ground year after year etc. ?

    TIA

Can't answer your questions, Harry because my method this year was: "Oh look, I have some SP seeds; I'll pop them in here (May)". Method #2: "Crikey, 'everlasting' SP seeds; no idea where they came from; I'll pop them in the copse with the sunflowers (June)". Both have done ok, except for the everlasting SP's do look like they have a touch of mildew on the leaves, but they are still producing gorgeous flowers!

And, as an aside note: this is also the year I learned ... not to grow sweet peas amongst edible peas :heehee:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AGM_sweet_peas

The link above shows the RHS list of Sweetpeas , with an AGM ( Award of garden merit ) . If I am choosing a plant and one type has an AGM , this always promotes it to the top of the list for me .
So I will be selecting from this list , for Febuary 2013 planting :blue thumb:
