    Hi all,

I have just bought a packet of F1 Blockie mix sweet pepper seeds to have a go at. I have never grown these before.

Has anyone got any tips with these?

I'm considering trying a grow bag this year and put a couple of plants in there.

The packet recommends March for sowing, I'm thinking middle of Feb.

Any tips, does or don'ts would be really appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Hi Craig

Do you have a electric propagator, as I do sow the seeds late February as they do require a long season to fruit are you growing in a greenhouse ? which is ideal , I have on a few occasions grown outside in very large pots but the results are not very good , for me .

I agree with you that a relatively early start may help.

    Thank you for your replies.

I don't have an electric propagator, just a normal one. It worked well for me last year as I start them in my south facing bedroom on the window.

They will eventually be in a greenhouse. It's one of those plastic ones. It has shelving either side and an open area in the middle. I take the bottom and middle shelves out of each side leaving just the top shelves in place. I'm planning on grow bags either side with the sweet peppers in one of the bags and cucumber and a different variety of pepper on the other side.

I have a lemon tree in the middle open space and will be having small chilli plants on the top shelves

Hi Craig , I start my Chilli seeds late January as they need a long growing season . I'd presume sweet peppers are the same ? I start mine in the airing cupboard for about 5 to 7 days at 30°c this gives very good germination rates :dbgrtmb:

      Thanks all,

Sheal, thank you for that link, i did post on that last year giving my experience on growing bell peppers. I thinned the fruit out so the plant could concentrate on growing 3 or 4 decent size peppers. I have never grown this variety so didnt know if thinning was required or if the plant could produce a decent crop with leaving them all on.

Im also not sure whether to remove the first few flowers on this type?

Perhaps somebody can help you with the answers Craig. It's the first and last time I grow the peppers, they didn't ripen and just rotted on the plants even though they grew to a good size. I think they need a warmer, less damp atmosphere than here on the island. :)
