Sweet peppers

    I have been growing these for many years in the greenhouse, but am beginning to wonder whether or not to continue. The reason is that the fruit I produce have much thinner flesh and much less sweet than bought
    What are you finding?
    Have you a particular easily found favourite with a thicker flesh?

    Can't say that we've found home grown any less sweet than ones from the shop Sam. We grow in in the ground in a small polytunnel and theygrow better there than when we used to grow them in pots in the greenhouse.
    One thing we have been doing for the past couple of years is growing some of the 'pointy' type peppers and we've found these to be generally better croppers. We get the seed from ones we buy in Tesco.

    I find the exact same thing! I'm going to try a few more varieties but if I can't find a decent one I'll just buy the few I actually use from the supermarket in future

    I'm in the same boat as Sam, over the years my peppers have disappointed. I'm trying Sweet Jumbo for the first time, a variety recommended in Gardeners World magazine, if this year's crop is poor I might give them up as well. It's interesting to hear how you grow them Dave and where you got your seed from, you must have green fingers,

    I know what you mean too. This year Im trying one called 'Orange baby' which is said to have smaller sized, but plentiful crop. We shall see what they are like.
