    Hi,

I sprinkled some sweet williams seeds in some 2" x 2" square pots about 4 weeks ago and left them on the window sill. The good news is that they are growing well at about 3" high each. The bad news is that they are getting really over crowded (up to 20 plants per pot) and I don't know what to do next!

Should I try pricking them out (not tried this yet, sounds a bit complicated and I'm worried I might end up killing all of them), or pull most of them out so I end up with 1 (or 2, or 3???) per pot?

Any advice gratefully received :) - thanks in advance.

It might be a bit early to grow Sweet William from seed now, as they are biennials and won't flower until next summer. I start mine in mid summer and once they're big enough they go out into the designated spot in the borders in autumn. They survive winter fine, albeit looking thoroughly miserable and get attacked by slugs in early Spring. Then, about this time of year they suddenly perk up and put on loads of growth, ready for summer flowering...

As with all seeds, they need pricking out. Pulling out will damage a very fragile root system.
