    yes more light
they used to shed a lot of that sticky blossom stuff in may and in the autumn the seeds and leaves that came off them worra mess and the saplings were springing up everywhere
i checked that they had no tree preservation orders on them - thank goodness they didnt
it took the tree surgeon from 9am till dark to get it down to around 5ft

Blimey! What did he do? Have five hours for lunch!? :lollol:

Ahem. Glad to see you had a professional in instead of some old gypo. Nice one.

And in my view sycamores can be big, beautiful trees that are fab to work in when they have been given the time and room to reach maturity. Classing all sycamores as weeds isn't fair on the species.

the tree's position was near to the house and main road and needed to be taken down limb by limb
the tree surgeon did a difficult job very well indeed there was no damage caused

i do like trees but NIMBY lol = not in my back yard!

Nice work, cumberland. They will make important habitats for a variety of micro and macro flora and fauna.

Wow, wish I had the space for two sycamore trunks like that, I just get the many seedlings that sprout, especially in hard to get to place, like between garage and fence!

Be warned, rub the sprouting growth shoots off or it may well come back again as a pollard!

yes i will have to keep on top of any re-growth
i am still picking out the seedlings from last year - bloody weedy things they are prolific
anyway i have made a small logpile with some of the leftover chunks of wood to provide
shelter for the resident amphibians in the nearby ponds and other small insecty creatures

the 2 trees were massive and a bit too close to the house for comfort still plenty greenery around and now much more improved light
