Wanting some fragrant flowers indoors over the winter I have added several varieties of gardenia and jasmine to my indoor growing area. Today I have my first flower, which literally bust into existence; as this morning the bud was closed and by lunch the flower was open. This is a Tabernaemontana divaricata, also known as Crepe Jasmine and Pinwheel Flower as well as several other names. The flower is supposed to be fragrant at night, but I doubt that I will be getting out of bed to find out.

That's beautiful, HG! Is it related to Plumeria?

You are very observant, it is related, they are both in the dogbane family. It has very little fragrance up to this point, however, it is nice to just have a flower in November in New York.

Had a jasmine for years, for indoors and out in the summer, only gave up about 5 blooms in the summer, never in the winter indoors. I chucked it.
