          Hiya Dai.

Interesting that you should mention Greyhound, as it was the first cabbage I grew when I got back into gardening, properly. I found it rather tasteless, quite watery. This year, I've tried Hispi, a smaller cabbage, and they tasted better, imo. Mind you, I reckon I probably overcook cabbage :o I actually prefer the outer leaves when it comes to taste. I LOVE greens :)

          Cheers...Freddy.

              try this recipe

              shred a raw cabbage

add in a large glass bowl

chop 1 large onion and add to the cabbage

in a coffe mug, add 1/3 cup of extra virgin olive oil, juice of 2 fresh lemons and top up with balsamic vinegar ... add salt and fresh ground pepper ... add a bay leaf, take 3 tablespoons of dried oregano .... place in the palm of your hand and crush with the fingers of your other hand .... add this to the vinegar/oil/lemon mixture .... add a heaped teaspoon of french maile (spelling?) mustard and 3 cruched cloves of garlic .... and stir with a fork

add this to the cabbage ... stir .... cover the bowl with clingwrap and do not put in the fridge ... every 2 hrs, give the cabbage a mix

after 5 hrs it will be ready to eat

everyone who has tasted this has asked for the recipe .... cheap, simple and very tasty

Seconded. In my opinion the best for flavour, with a lovely crisp texture too. We usually have them chopped up and lightly cooked in a little butter. :yummy:

Another one I'd recommend is the winter cabbage variety Tundra, another one which has a beautiful crisp texture and good flavour. Mine should be ready quite soon, can't wait! :)

                  Hi Dai.

In a way, they are my favourite too. Can't beat the sight of those few leaves graduating into solid lumps of tender 'goodness' :) When I was a plotholder, I quite often used to see cabbages producing poor results on other plots, and it's quite gratifying(indeed surprising) to see my own doing so well, generally. I may well be wrong, but I believe if 'one' can produce a decent cabbage, then 'one' isn't doing much wrong.

                  Cheers...Freddy.

"Decent" = of good size :WINK1: But I'm sure you knew that :) I gave sprouts a miss this year, as last year they WERE looking good until the whitefly had their way with them  Made a right mess of them. Going to try again next year though :dbgrtmb:
