    Hi
I've got some 1st earlies growing in a tub which are getting close to flowering. It's been quite windy here for the last three days and I've noticed some leaf damage (brown edges, wilting etc). I have covered the plants with fleece but was wondering if it would be ok to remove the affected leaves/stems and what affect it might have on the taters growing (hopefully) in the tub.

It's been a tough time in these high winds, it sounds like your spuds have been badly hit. I would leave it to nature in case the stems recover, they can sometimes flop over under their own weight later in the season and that doesn't do them any harm.

If it's an isolated plant displaying these chracteristics, it could be an ants nest.

Thanks for the replies. I've had a look this morning and everything seems to be ok apart from a few leaves that are a bit brown around the edges. I'll keep a close eye on them and remove any that show signs of deteriorating.
They are getting plenty of water and the tub is raised off the ground.

The wind coming off the North sea can be a bit of a treetreetreetreetreetree at times!! :-)
