I need advice from the potato experts, I grew my first ones (Laura, second early) this year, and I know nothing.

The plants were fine no blight at all, green and healthy to the last day (today) I have done a bit of careful digging and found nice sized tatoes so I pulled the tops (with some regrets, they made a lovely green sight). Now some potatoes are still underground some are on top. Everyone says to leave them in the ground for a few days, but the light makes them green and nasty... so do I bury them all again? Do I leave them on top, and the few days of sun don´t make a difference? Help!

Don't leave any in or on the ground, dig them all up. Depending on the soil type and dampness they won't all come out the ground when you pull up the top.

The only time to leave any in the ground is if you have had blight (which you haven't). If you leave any exposed they will turn green after a day or so, and green spuds are poisonous, so dig carefully and get them all out.

    Hope you enjoy them Ivory!

Can't think why anyone would say leave them in the ground, except if they thought you had main crop, its OK to leave maincrop in the ground but not earlies.

This may be too late but, you know that you don't have to harvest the whole lot in one go?

You could just leave the tops on and pull up individuals. That way the remainder still keep growing until you need them.

    Too late :)

No, I knew that, but our potato patch was tiny and a bit shady this year. I had planted exactly 13 seed potatoes, and I pulled out three full buckets, not too shabby! I think they will be eaten soon. Next year I will have a larger patch, and in the sun, so I will definitely stagger the crops. Thanks again!
