    Hi.

We use about 2 dozen a day in our residence. So, my question is......

Can they be used directly on the plants..or are they better in the compost heap?

    Cheers.

Hi tweaky, I don't see a problem putting the leaves on the soil as long as you rip the bags off. My G-ma used to empty her tea pot in the same spot and had a wonderful medium for cuttings there. I compost everything and mine go into the Daleks:thumb:

I compost everything too, including teabags. They would probably make a great mulch in quantity, but I 'm not sure of the biodegradability of some of the bags - I've occassionally found a bag intact in my compost, but I don't drink the same quantity, and it's usually something fruity! Might be worth experimenting with a few out of the compost first, to see if you're left with a pile of empty wrappings. Are you brand specific? I feel a survey of sorts coming on! :D

    Survey coming on...heh,heh.

    Only use Fair Trade:p

The reason I asked about using them straight into the soil was, the tannin and any other chemicals they may contain...ie, which plants would benefit and which one's would hate them.

No great problem though if I just compost them. I could google tea bags on plants, but prefer direct experience from peeps, yea.:thumb:

Tweaky I would definatly put them straight on the soil,as it only stands to reason you see.
I personally do a lot of fishing and all the worms are kept in a tub so they all need feeding
And what do we feed worms on?.Tea Bags. And we all know what worms do to our soil dont we.
So that is why I would put them straight on the soil,To feed the worms.

I remember my mother used to empty the tea pot on to the rose trees and we had the best looking flowers. I dont mean "tea roses" It acts as a good mulch. i put my tea bags on the compost heap.
