hi folks i posted on here some time ago about a mystery plant in my garden,we named it the teabag tree but couldnt find a proper name for it. have now been told it is sometimes known as the petticoat tree.if left it grows quite tall but can be cut back and will then bush out,its got small leaves yellow flowers and the large seed pods start off almost orange then dry out and end up looking like teabags hanging from the branches hence the name we gave it.

[IMG] That sounds like the trees we used to call "Pop it trees" because the pods went pop when squeeezed. Got into some terrible trouble at times over that. :D :D Got chased down the road a couple of times by the irate gardener. :D :D Had forgotten all about that until I read your post. :D

Lantra this is a picture of my Colutea Arboescens, there are a couple of others I know of, Colutea Media (a hybrid) and Colutea Orientalis, but I definately think its a Colutea

Is it on a single stem?
If so how high do you want it?
You can cut it back now if you want to but you lose some flowers and pods.
I prune mine hard back each winter, taking out virtually all the previous seasons growth, that way it never gets any bigger.
But its pretty tough and you can do whatever you like.

there are 5 stems each about 14ft tall, its next to a conifer and a couple of the branches now go through the conifer so it looks quite good against the dark green, but i would like it to be a bit bushier if thats possible.im also gowing to try growing some of the seeds this year.
