is it true that a weak black tea solution is a good source of nutrients for indoor plants?

My Father-in-law kept an African violet constantly in bloom for more than 6 years by 'watering' it with nothing but cold tea.

I agree its acidic, might be good for acid lovers and to counteract lime in tap water.

No expert on the merits of cold tea but when I was a student nurse with Florence we watered the ward plants with cold tea and they seemed to get on fine.
I don't bother with the cold tea these days but I do pot the tea bags and coffee filters on the compost heap.

Alice, it's fine to put the tea bags on the compost but it is best to tear the bag first. A lot of the tea bags nowadays contain artificial fibres that take years to biodegrade so you won't get the benefit of the leaves.

The bags won't cause any harm but may still be intact when you shift the compost to the flower beds.

I understand, but have no confirmation, that most bags that have a cardboard tag for dangling them in the water are usually biodegradeable.

I water all my acid loving plants with cold tea, it must be working because they are all thriving. I stopped composting tea bags, I recently started on some 3 year old compost and every teabag was intact, so I
have to pick them all out before use it, didn't realize I drank that much tea lol!!.

I've always composted Tbags. Shiney's comment about tearing the bag first, I'm not so sure whether it's necessary. I never have done and the contents have always disappeared when I use the compost. Bags still in tact though!

I put all my teabags on the compost heap. I never see the wee bags again and trust me i do some tea drinking. My brother stopped putting them on his because of the wee bags. I maintained there wasn't enough heat. I put fresh cow manure on mine. I take it from the field across the road when the residents have gone of course:hehe:
