I had a unexpected frost yesterday and cold this morning but thankfully no frost, supposed to warm up during the week. I've had my bob hat on the last two morning, soon warmed up when the sun is out.

Very light frost the past three mornings here in rural Sussex, followed by warm sunny days.

Cleared out my greenhouse tomatoes yesterday, ready for moving in pelargoniums and citrus for the winter.

No frosts here just yet but the tenders are already making an appearance in the tunnel

Tomatoes still going strong here in rural Notts - both in polytunnel and outside. Though on Monday my car claimed it was only 2 Celsius at 8am.

Looking for some big bubble insulation right now so will be ready for any freeze. Going to try and buy one of these big round straw bales from the local farmer. Must be easier than last years hunt for half dozen small square bales.?

Be warned @WeeTam - those round bales seem to be the equivalent of about 15 standard hay bale size. So you'd have a LOT of straw

How will you move it WeeTam - assuming it will be delivered? Why do you need so much?

I usually get a standard size bale of straw for wrapping my tender plants.

Im hoping i can get it delivered as the farm is only about 600m away. As an aside we used to roll them down the fields as kids while balancing on top of them . ( Kinda had a thing for near death stunts on a farm as a kid ).

Need it to wrap a dozen treeferns and several palms. ( Lost a big Chusan last winter due to freeze )The old straw will be used on the compost pile like this years. If it doesnt work out i will try to get about6 small square bales from another farmer. Problem this year is straw prices have rocketed.

Don't you have a deckchair, a still and a heater in there? :snorky: you need to have a word with @Zigs about it. :loll:

We had three successive nights with frost but none this morning. We don't have tropical of any sort and the non-hardy plants will have to survive on their own if they can't be moved under cover. :noidea:

I'll soon be wheeling this out to wrap our Butia up. I screw polycarbonate sheets on to protect it from the winter.
