Hi, BM! We've just been watching the news. Strongyloden flies off tomorrow so there may be problems to Turkey and Cyprus!

Our friends here "supposedly" fly back to the UK today but I doubt it and our friends there flying to Italy today will have problems, too! Luton, Heathrow and Stansted are all affected and not catering to short-haul flights.

Thank goodness they caught the plot in time. High Wycombe ... I worked there for two years!

It is affecting planes going to the states, also iff you board a plane they have stopped anyone boarding with hand luggage even us ladies will not be able to carry handbags on board they have to be put in your suitcase, dont know how we will manage on a long haul flight next morning to brush our hair and redo our make-up, will be stepping off the plane looking a mess

Sad indeed and a long haul flight with just the items allowed will not be as comfortable, especially for travellers with young children. But better some discomfort than a sudden descent.

Hopefully the chaos will settle down soon, as people know what to do, and the planes can get sorted out. Most of the cancellations and stopping short haul flights is due to airport congestion, rather than security.

Does not affect me - I am scared of flying even without the terrorists, don't go anywhere near an airplane or airport!
Nightmare for all those dependent on planes though...

I'm with you on that Wishaw - haven't flown in years ... t'other half is claustaphobic and I hate take offs and landings! We now to and fro from the UK Santander (Spain) to Plymouth ... in saying that, a couple of years ago those ferries were a target by the Basques ... so had a few heebeegeebees there! :(

A friend of mine was supposed to be coming up tomorrow t go to the bluegrass festival with us, from Luton airport - and they've only just said for definite that his flight is canxd, so he can get a refund and drive up. No way is he going to miss the festival!! But lots of people wouldn't have that option - what a rotten thing to happen of you're off on holiday.

Hi, Dendro! I am surprised flights were cancelled from Luton (ye, gads, where I went to school) to your part of the GB! Well done he's got a refund and will drive to the festival ... I'll want all the details!

    Got any tapes / CDs?

[IMG] A friend of mine was in the US. He started his flight home last night & will be landing in about 10 mins as far as I know.... He said the alert hadn't made any difference to the flight times from the east coastof US to UK... Allot of fear from the Americans waiting to fly here though he said....!! :(
:( We were on one of the first planes out of Heathrow after 9/11... That was not a comfortable flight I can tell you!!!! When we landed everyone cheered...!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a difficult holiday, as we came home 4 weeks after Bush's bombing started...!!!!! :( I think flying will stay like this now... & do seriously wonder, how much longer we will all be able to, just pop over the pond to wherever..!!!! :(

It's appalling. My friend flew just after 9/11; he (like I) does not have a racist bone in his body. But couldn't help being nervous when 2 asians sat nearby. He said he watched them for the whole flight, as did others, and was appalled at himself when they landed. It's breeding racism where non existed before and the radical minority are going to destroy the world.
My childhood in 70's Manchester was a multi-racial one. We embraced each others differences and were eager to learn about each others different cultures. Why did it change?

Last night up on the deck we watched about 8-10 flights take off in succession, so guess things are back to normal at Faro! Obviously it's always busy this tie of year, but not like that! At about the same time the "high fliers" started to-ing and fro-ing ... not sure but think they are the Gran Canary / Med places flights.

According to the news, flights at Stansted are supposed to have been delayed with families sleeping on the floor etc. Not much sign of that in reality. The wretched planes are still going in and out overhead with noisy and regular nuisance. They can ground them all forever as far as I'm concerned.
